These Are The Things I Saw

SATURDAY, JUNE 27TH, 2009 TO SATURDAY, JULY 11TH, 2009

  • An elderly chap, perhaps seventy years old. Chin-length whispy white hair, a tweed suit and a nice briefcase. Additionally wearing a short, dark brown toupee that comes nowhere near to covering his entire head of hair.
  • A girl at the beach, wearing a bikini, hanging out with a group of people and a pug. Walked by, noticed something on her stomach. Looked closer, and she had what appeared to be two symmetrical nostril sized indents near the end of her sternum. Most bizarre.
  • Another old fellow, this one 60 or so, also a full head of white hair. Strolling along the sidewalk in Rollerblades, wearing kneepads, wristguards, elbow pads, and a round skateboarding helmet.
  • A balding, middle-aged man in Wilmette, waiting for the train. Full business regalia, suitcase, nice raincoat over a black suit. 3” platform shoes. Odd, because he would have been at least 6’ without them.

Don't Tie Your Laces Together and Run

THURSDAY JUNE 18TH, 2009 - FRIDAY, JUNE 26TH, 2009

Friday’s (June 19th) Taste of Randolph was ridiculous. The morning brought some awesome thunderstorms, the strongest yet this year in Evanston. Walked around the corner to Whole Foods and got completely drenched in just a few minutes. I love strong rain. It cleared up in the afternoon and Alexander and I rode the Metra down to Ogilvie and walked over to the street festival. Almost as soon as we enter the grounds, it started raining again. We walked down to the stage where the previous band was playing, but they packed up as the rain picked up. Walked around, got completely soaked by the storm, ate a sandwich, hid under tents, got hit by flying debris, saw glasses shatter, and watched Dr. Dog when they took the stage.

And since I figure these things require a photo of feet as per the pattern these past few weeks, here ya go. An old one. Why am I standing on top of this thing?

It’s been a jumble of work and MMORPG’s this summer. I’m on Warcraft (level 28 Troll Hunter weeeeoh, yes I bought an account).

It looks like Olivia and I will be the only ones going to Sunday of Pitchfork (Davie and Alexander didn’t get teeckets before they sold out, damn!).

(“HELLO!” says Walter.)

Publishing this baby since it’s been in queue forever.

More interesting things to come.

Butter Brickle Seedling Wings

Sitting on a futon in Alexander’s living room, 10AM and he’s sleeping. Haven’t written on here for over a week, oops. Here’s a recap, since a lot has happened.

WED-THUR, JUNE 10-11TH, 2009

  • Lots of packing. Man, lots of packing. I never realized how many clothes I have. I donated maybe two garbage bags full of ones that I just never wore, or only held onto because they reminded me of something special. Those, I just took pictures of. I hope that will suffice.
  • I sold those books I found in the garbage for $180 at Becks. :D Silly kids, sell your books, don’t throw them away!
  • Got the keys to my apartment and started moving in! A FULL size bed (and not just a mattress on the floor, ick!) for the first time in two years. Fantastic. My sublettee did a good job cleaning, so all I had to do was put things in their places, which was fun. Planning out artwork for the walls. I moved stuff there in rolly suitcases and with a shopping cart stolen from Whole Foods (the one we used for RCB Field day). That baby was full to the brim with my books…and not all of them fit. Ridiculous, and I have 2 more bookshelves at home. I’m such a nerd.

FRIDAY, JUNE 12TH, 2009

  • MY MOMMA CAME! AND MY PUP!
    • They got in late Friday night, but spent the night at their hotel (dog-friendly without a fee—fuck you Hotel Orrington!).
    • We ate at Le Peep, which was my first time there. Stuffed french toast with fruit asdlfkjweroj yum. YUM. And she had banana split yogurt and granola (sliced banana on either side, filled with yogurt and granola on top with some whipped cream and strawberries). Dear lordie, yum yum.
    • She and Alexander (first time they met, yay!) helped me move the rest of my stuff while Lucy (the pup) ran frantically around CRC like usual.
    • Did lots of shoppin’. Target and Jewel. Got new bedding—a new full size comforter with a grey coverlet and pillows, white sheets, and the most amazing grey and lemon yellow pillow in the world.
    • Picked up a ton of groceries (THANK YOU MOM) and cooked sketti, garlic bread, spinach salad with shaved parmesean and tomater, with caramelchocolatepecan cookies for dessert (well, at first we couldn’t get the oven to work, but it eventually succumbed to our wrath).

SATURDAY, JUNE 13TH, 2009

  • More shopping! My mom bought new shoes (perfect for my mom, who is really outdoorsy). Went to World Market and Blick—got A FRIEND. His name is Alfred the Elephant, and he will be the stuffed animal for my child.
  • Momma left, much sadness. I’ll have to find time/book bus tickets to get my ass up to Duluth because I never see old friends and family anymore.
  • Went with Alexander to his friend’s brother’s new apartment. Hung out with some old ladies who drank wine and asked us about our foreign language backgrounds. ATE THE MOST AMAZING HAMBURGER IN THE WORLD. Melty buttery cheese inside the burger. Ugggggh, delicious.

SUNDAY, JUNE 14TH, 2009

  • RIBBBFESSSSSST!
    • Went to see Hoots and Hellmouth with Katy, Alexander, and Katie.
    • Ate an entire rack of ribs with Alexander. Proceeded to look like a 3 year old eating with her hands and getting it all over her face. YUM.
    • Mojitos!
    • Hoots were awesome. Toe-tappin’, little-kid-dancin’, bubble-gun-blowin’ hell of a time.
  • BLUEEESSFESSSST!
    • After Hoots, we took the Brown line downtown and caught some of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Sat down and layed in the grass for a bit, thousands of people on every side of us.

MONDAY, JUNE 15TH, 2009

TUESDAY, JUNE 16TH, 2009

  • Didn’t do much of much at all. Worked as usual, DESIGNED GRAND SUMMER PROJECTS AND PLANS.
  • Reminds me, I still need to plan out my August trip to Seattle. YAY FREE FLIGHT.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17TH, 2009

  • Ate Salt & Vinegar Pringles with Katy at Frances Searle.
  • Ate Chipotle for the first time in over a year. THE WHOLE THING. I think my stomach imploded a little, but the barbacoa/black beans/spicy salsa was so good.
  • Went to the EPL, checked out too many books! I want to learn Finnish and Indonesian! Selamat pagi!
  • Started reading a book about weird science questions and fell asleep from 7PM until 11PM. Biked over to Alexander’s and watched Kung Fu Panda with him (and Katie! :D), made chocolate chip cookies.

Fighting Nostalgia

SUNDAY, JUNE 7TH, 2009

  • Cookout munchies, grill’d ‘dogs and ‘gers, flip that one, pick that one up and put it right back down in the same place. Yeahh.
  • CRC Film Festival
    • Saw Thor Rudebeck’s Andante for the first time, and I really enjoyed it! It looks super professional.
    • Celebrated Thor living 4 years in CRC and his going-aways with a banner, cake, and some hugging.
    • Tastycake. Yummypunch. Relaxation.
    • Except that I had to start/finish a research paper. Completed it with time to spare, but that involved staying up til 4AM. I’m practically geriatric in my sleep pattern these past few weeks, so it was brutal.

MONDAY, JUNE 8TH, 2009

  • Turned in my research paper and had my last conservation bio group project meeting! I’m unsure if my professor will even read it since it’s 20+ pages of our research. Perhaps it could turn into a 399 Independent Study next year, and this wetland restoration could happen.
  • Studying for physiology = death, boredom, misery. I did it though. Kind of.
  • ILLUMIHINMAN! We pwned them. (Hello, Google-searchers interested in what the hell Illumihinman is!)
    • There may or may not have been live wildebeast.
    • The cops may or may not have come and the blame may or may not have been placed completely on Hinman instead of CRC.
    • Someone may or may not have been knocked unconscious face-first into a pile of Nickelodeon slime.

TUESDAY, JUNE 9TH, 2009

  • Completed my bio exam in 35 minutes of the alotted 2 hours, turned in my conservation bio take-home test and…
  • I’M HOME FREE HOLY CRAP. Done with sophomore year.
  • Packing up things. My momma’s coming with my dog Lucy on Thursday night. I’ve packed almost everything and I’m going to start bringing things over tomorrow evening once the current tenant, the person I’m subletting from til September, leaves for a volunteer trip in South America!
    • I’m fighting nostalgia though. I have way too much crap that I just can’t stand to have anymore, but I want to keep so many things because they have symbolic significance. Damn things. I’m already overtaking the suite with my piles of STUFF. THINGS. Tell it to go away.
    • I did find a bunch of books someone was about to throw away though. It turns out that I’ll be able to sell them for over $100 at Beck’s. Sounds pretty good to me. :D
  • Free pancakes at Norris tonight. Pancakes, turkey snausage, hasherbrown, and some orange juices. Slurp.
